Fr. Tony Lackland
Fr. Tony Lackland

Hello, my name is Father Tony Lackland, Chaplain of the Catholic Campus Ministry. I am also an alum –  class of ’93, SMU-Meadows School of the Arts.  It gives me great joy, as Chaplain for the Catholic students of SMU, to walk with you who journey in your faith during this particular time in your lives and in this particular place.

Because our lives as Catholics centers and is found in the Eucharist – the “source and summit” of our faith, each Sunday at 5:00pm we gather as a community of believers in Perkin’s Chapel for Mass.  We gather in song, listen to the word of God proclaimed in scripture, break bread together as a family of believers,  and depart, nourished by the Eucharist to live on this campus our vocational call we receive in the Gospels.

It is my fervent hope and prayer that all the students of the SMU Catholic Community will deepen their knowledge and love of Jesus, as they journey through this great institution called Southern Methodist University.

Our late Holy Father, John Paul II said in his address to young people, “The search and discovery of God’s will is a deep and fascinating endeavor.   Every vocation, every path to which Christ calls us, ultimately leads to fulfillment and happiness, because it leads to God, to sharing in God’s own life.”

May the Holy Spirit enlighten your minds and enflame your hearts with his love.  Be assured of my daily prayers for you as you begin this new academic year.

“Welcome home” returning students, and “WELCOME” to SMU – class of 2014!!
