The Newman Catholic Center at University Heights, which consists of Rutgers Newark, NJIT, and Essex County Community College, is part of the Newman Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Newark. We seek to serve students in their spiritual, moral, and intellectual development, in accordance with the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.

Newman Catholic meets on a regular basis for prayer, faith formation, local outreach, and fellowship. We offer numerous opportunities - both on campus at the Newman Catholic Center on 91 Washington St. in Newark.

Adjacent to Saint Patrick’s Pro-Cathedral, the Newman Catholic Center is home to our staff and variety of ministries. Feel free to stop in any time and look around. Our chaplains and campus ministers are there to answer questions and help orient you around campus, our faith, and life in general.

Our goals are to:

  • To create an awareness of the Catholic faith on each campus among students of Rutgers-Newark, NJIT, and Essex County College.

  • To provide publicity and outreach at each campus for the various programs of the Newman Catholic Center.

  • To foster a welcoming atmosphere and build community among the students and programs of Newman Catholic.

  • To sponsor various special events for the enjoyment and benefit of students at Rutgers-Newark, NJIT, and Essex County College.

“The Eucharist is connected with the Passion. ...To make sure that we do not forget, Jesus gave us the Eucharist as a memorial of his love ... When you look at the Crucifix, you understand how much Jesus loved you then, when you look at the Sacred Host you understand how much Jesus loves you now.” - St. Teresa of Calcutta

Eucharistic Adoration is a form of worship and devotion to Jesus Christ, present in the consecrated host. Christians from around the world have worshiped and prayed in this beautiful way for over 750 years.

For the summer, Eucharistic Adoration is available every First Friday of the month following the 12:15 PM Mass at Saint Patrick’s Pro-Cathedral.

Confession Times

“In failing to confess, Lord, I would only gide you from myself, not myself from You.” - Saint Augustine of Hippo

If you are in need of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, it will be available to you before Mass and by appointment!
