TriCo Newman Ministry

A Message from TriCo Newman Ministry

Newman Catholic Ministry at Haverford helps students know and love Jesus Christ, form a community to worship together, and grow intellectually in our faith. We are a combined ministry with Bryn Mawr.

We have Mass every Sunday at Bryn Mawr campus in the Community Room in the Student Life and Wellness Center at 10:40am as well as regular confession on campus. We have weekly meetings for Bible study and prayer as well as hangout events where we do baking, painting, watch movies, and play games.

If you want to convert into Catholicism or receive Confirmation, you can receive those Sacraments from our priest Father Ames. Though a small community here, we are very close knit and love spending time together at mass, in prayer, hangouts, after mass for brunch, and at our Christmas/Easter parties. Our audience is any student of a Catholic background or who is interested in the Catholic faith. We hope to create a space for Catholic students to engage with their faith while at Haverford, and fill the necessary gap of on campus ministry and Catholic sacraments.

Contact one of our student leaders, Madeline Appelhans (mappelhans@brynmawr.edu) or our campus minister Lizzie Chapman (lizzie.catholic@gmail.com) with any questions of how to get involved.

Our priest is Father John Ames (rev.johnames@gmail.com) He comes to campus for Mass, Confession and Confirmation/OCIA classes when needed. You can also make an individual appointment with him if you have any questions about the Catholic faith. Father Ames is a native of Philadelphia, and is an ordained priest in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He earned a doctorate in theology at Catholic University (Washington DC). He has served in parish ministry, was the Dean at Saint Charles seminary and has taught at several local colleges. He is currently the pastor of Saint Colman Parish (Ardmore) and also the Catholic Newman Chaplain at Haverford, Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore Colleges.
